Mercedes-AMG Project ONE Rendered with More Obvious Formula One Styling

We've already declared our unconditional love for Mercedes-AMG's Project ONE concept hypercar, probably the gem of this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, even though opinions may vary.

And what's not to like? The Project ONE uses Formula One technology from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 race car, and while we've heard such claims before from other manufacturers when all they really borrowed was some expertise, this one has lots of things in common.

Mainly the powertrain. It uses a 1.6-liter V6 turbocharged engine together with four electric motors: two on the front axle, giving the hypercar all-wheel-drive and active torque vectoring, one attached to the crank and the final one providing the boost for the turbo when there are no gases flowing around.

Needless to say, the Project ONE is very fast. However, all this was known well before the official presentation in Frankfurt, so what did Mercedes-AMG keep secret for that event? That would be the car's design. The company was so convinced nobody would be disappointed with what they saw that they kept its appearance as the only remaining piece of the puzzle.

Well, we'd say they were right if it weren't for Jan Peisert of Peisert Design. The digital artist says, and we quote, "I couldn't wait for the reveal, but when I saw it for the first time, I was missing something..." You're probably just as curious as we are to find out what, and luckily Jan has put together a short clip to demonstrate.

He believes the exterior design doesn't do enough to emphasize the car's connection with Formula One, and even though we never found that to be a problem, we can't say he's not right. So he decided to fix it by modifying the front end to more closely resemble that of the W08 EQ Power+ F1 single-seater.

We're actually split about the outcome - there's no question it looks good, but is it better than the original? Difficult to tell. However, it's now our turn to tell Jan we're missing something. The headlights. We don't know about him, but we prefer to see where we're going at night.
