Mercedes-AMG Petronas Technical Director Bob Bell Leaves Team

Yesterday's dismissal - cloaked as a resignation for the press - of Scuderia Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali wasn't the only one in Formula 1, as today we bring a slightly smaller bombshell from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas paddock.

According to an official press release, technical director Bob Bell will leave his position from Mercedes-AMG Petronas at the end of the 2014 Formula 1 season.

Unlike Domenicali's resignation, Bob Bell's didn't happen in the heat of the moment and probably comes from entirely different reasons altogether.

We say this because the Irishman had apparently resigned his position since December 2013, with the intention of “pursuing new challenges outside the company” but it was only yesterday that the team decided to make it public.

Bell's resignation will only come into effect starting with the last race of this year's racing season, with Mercedes-AMG Petronas deciding that his role as Technical Director will not be replaced. The responsibilities previously held by Bell will be assumed in the future by Executive Director (Technical) Paddy Lowe.

Bob Bell had joined the Anglo-German F1 team back in 2011, assuming the overall responsibility for the technical operations of the chassis group in Brackley.

With a careers spanning over three decades in Formula One, the Irishman was first an aerodynamicist for McLaren back in the 1980s, after which he borrowed his technical expertise to Benetton, Jordan, Renault and finally Mercedes GP/Mercedes-AMG Petronas.
