The current Formula One season is starting to look like a formality for MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS after another 1-2 finish from the team's pilots. While this is bad for the spectacle, we're sure the team is enjoying this wonderful spell.
It was business as usual for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS team at Spa-Francorchamps this Sunday where Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg led the race from start to finish with confidence, minus a minor hiccup after the start for Nico. The two ended the Grand Prix in the same positions they started it: the British driver finished first, with his German teammate as the runner-up.
This sixth win of the season cements Hamilton's position at the top of the driver's table, but he can't relax just yet as there are plenty races left for Rosberg to pose a threat. The German driver proved he can be dangerous and right now there are just 28 points between the two. One technical problem for Hamilton and the gap could drop to just three, and from there anything's possible.
This win will have a greater importance to Lewis Hamilton, who has now moved level with his idol, Ayrton Senna, in the all-time podium finishes table. They are both tied on the fourth place with 80 such achievements. It was also Hamilton's 39th win of the career.
The real shocker comes from the constructor's table where MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS is 184 points clear of second place Ferrari after 11 of the total 19 races this season. While it's still too early to call them certain winners, it would take something extremely dramatic for them to finish second. And by 'extremely dramatic' we mean absolutely apocalyptic.
"I'm really happy with that one. I had great pace in the car and the balance felt fantastic. If anything it got better through the race and I never felt under pressure. After the stops I took it a bit easy on the out laps and Nico closed up but I always had a comfortable gap. A massive thank you to everyone here and back at the factories for all their hard work. The car was awesome all weekend and the crew did a great job. The weather has been great here too which makes this circuit even more fun to drive and what a great crowd. Loads of noise and plenty of British flags out there too which I really appreciate, so thanks to all of you for your support and hope to see you again at Monza!"
