When it comes to the world of supercars, there are so many options out there today that it’s rather hard to make a choice and stick with it. Back in the late 1990s and before that, the term was reserved for a rather select audience but since we have hypercars available for purchase these days, the supercar realm gained a lot more traction.
Today we’re taking a look at a rather off set comparison but one that is relevant nonetheless. The one car Mercedes is building today and that could be ranked this high is the AMG GT and its S version. Both of them deserve our attention, but it’s the S model that has our heart racing every time.
It uses a 4-liter twin-turbo engine that is gaining more and more popularity these days as various other AMG cars are starting to rely on it. On the S version it makes 510 HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque plenty to send the 1,645 kg (3,627 lbs) up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds. Yes, it may be debatable but we’re calling this a supercar.
Then there’s the second car in our video, the 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus, the most hardcore R8 ever made. Fitted with a 5.2-liter V10 engine that’s good for 610 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque, the car hailing from Ingolstadt brags with an acceleration of 3.2 seconds, mostly thanks to its added traction via the all-wheel-drive quattro system.
Since the weight factor works in favor of the Audi too but only by 15 kilos (33 lbs), will the extra torque help the AMG keep up and make up for the lack of 100 HP? Let’s check out the video and find out. Either way, this one editor would take the sound of that V8 over the V10 any day of the week!
