For those of you unfamiliar with the action in the DTM, we'd like to point out cars don't go round like in NASCAR races, but one of the attractions is the amount of body contact between cars during the race.
We're telling you this because the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters or German Touring Car Masters in English) is a spectacular show that has more and more fans every year. But not, the AMG GT S is also involved.

No, it will not race since it's not capable of seating four passengers, but motorsports aficionados will admire the AMG GT as the official DTM safety car.

Even if the new superstar from Stuttgart will not enter the track with racing in mind, engineers didn't forget to equip the car properly for its new duties. It also has a pretty massive task on its shoulders, as it comes to replace the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series as a safety car.

So, to safely guide those 490 HP touring cars around the circuit, the AMG GT didn't need much improvement, as Mercedes see the standard configuration up to the challenge. However, the Germans tell us they added an 'aerodynamically optimised carbon-fibre air scoop on the roof' but if we're not mistaken, the AMG GT Edition 1 has the same component.

As regulations demand it, Mercedes-Benz fitted the AMG GT S with a signalling system along with a 'special number plate at the rear with Safety Car lettering and orange/green LEDs is synchronised with the light bar and provides for added safety in the dark or in rain'.

Anyway, it's the race itself that matters most so in case you're interested, the second episode of the DMT season will take place at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz between 29 to 31 May 2015.
