Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster Looks Relaxed and Ready for BMW Z5 in New Rendering

For decades, the 911 Cabriolet was the benchmark, but that's because Porsche was trying harder than everyone else. Now they look like they're tired of being the best, and Mercedes could be poised to take over, fake leather seats and all.

Before we talk about the AMG GT some more, let's recap what the market is all about. At the top end, you have absurdly expensive cars like the SL 65 and Aston, Bentley Conti GT and Martin Vanquish Volante.

Those same customers used to buy the SLS Roadster from Mercedes, but there has been a hiatus of a couple of years. When the GT Roadster come out, it's going to face off against a pair of pensioners, the aging F-Type and the slightly bulkier 911.2 with its turbos.

The one to watch out for is the BMW Z5. Sure, it's going to be a lot less expensive, but that's usually the case when you compare these two brands (not always, just often).

"Oh, but the Z5 is going to have a 6-cylinder that can't be compared to a V8," except the GT Roadster is hardly a muscle car. The cheapest version will have only 462 hp from a 4.0-liter engine that the AMG division is going to push over 600 ponies in other projects.

The rendering du jour is from Remco M, who says he made it a long time ago. And why wouldn't he; the GT Roadster has only recently been sighted for the first time, but the idea has been around for a long time.

I've always been a fan of the Jaguar F-Type, but they've somehow ruined it in recent years by adding spoilers and vents that weren't needed. This GT Roadster is clean and has the curves of a Brazilian goddess you just want to smear tanning oil over. So what if she's got thick glutes? Dancing the rumba requires a certain muscle tone.
