Did anybody notice the massive AMG advertising boards at the Nurburgring Carousel? They're placed there for a very good reason, one that has to do with the Mercedes-AMG GT R.
The 577 hp supercar has dropped tons of Nurburgring hot laps since it made its debut back in the summer, with the lap time announcement expected to cause quite a stir.

AMG Boos Tobias Moers has already let it slip that the GT R will be quicker than the 991 Porsche 911 GT3 RS around the Nordschleife, so, after all that teasing, we can't wait to see the Affalterbach delight beating the 7:20 time of the Porsche.

We'll take the time to mention that Porsche isn't exactly unprepared for this adventure. While the 991.2 Turbo S already delivers 7:18 Ring performance, the upcoming 2018 GT2, which we've shown you lapping the Ring earlier today, should show the Mercedes-AMG GT R who's boss on the Green Hell - speaking of which, we're curious what Pagani (Huayra BC lap record attempts, anybody?) and Koenigsegg (have they finished rebuilding the Ring-crashed One:1?) think of this.

Returning to the range-topping GT, the supercar has recently been spotted flying around the Ring again, this time without the psychedelic wrap the Germans kept on the test car long after the unveiling of the model.

Instead, the prototype we have here is wearing the car's AMG Green Hell Magno launch color. And, in its stopwatch battle, this GT R won't spare anything. For instance, as you'll be able to see in the spy video below, a prototype that seems to be the 2018 Audi Q3 counted as collateral damage during one of the said hot laps.

The clip allows us to see the GT R passing the Ingolstadt crossover furiously, as if the two were engaged in a race. And if that's not enough to convince you of the lap time determination around the project, the rest of the machine's Ring behavior should.
