We apologize for the amount of salt ingesting we have put our readers through in recent weeks, but we'll have to do it again with the following piece of news.
The Aussies from Drive report that they have official intel about the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT, internally codenamed C190 and previously incorrectly and stupidly named by the automotive media as the new Mercedes-Benz “SLC”.
Drive says that the “Baby SLS” is actually lapping the Nurburgring Nordschleife faster than its big brothers, despite being less powerful.
Set to sport a newly-developed four-liter V8 with two turbochargers mounted between the two cylinder banks a la Audi RS6 or BMW M5 F10, the Mercedes-AMG GT (C190) will offer around 485-500 hp in its “standard” guise, while its overall weight will be almost 100 kg (220 pounds) lower than that of the SLS AMG.
Apart from the rather good power-to-weight ratio, the great-sounding Nordschleife performance is set to come from Mercedes-Benz hiring Markus Hofbauer some time ago. He is apparently the man who is credited as fine-tuning the acclaimed handling of the Porsche 911 (991), which is the car that the AMG GT has set its sight on.
