UPDATE: Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster Looks Sleeker than Coupe, Here's Its Soft Top

The Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster has been a constant presence in our spy shot headline this summer, with the supercar now returning once again, as a new test car has shown up on the Nurburgring.

Mercedes-Benz has a rich open-top tradition and you can instantly see this when checking out the GT C Roadster. In fact, the canvas top helps the Roadster appear even sleeker than the Coupe. Gone is the fixed-roof model's hatch, having been replaced by better-defined roof and a longer rear deck.

This brings the GT C Roadster closer to the classic sportscar proportions, so the beast (no Mercedes-AMG GT R pun intended) looks at home on the Nordschleife.

And judging by the solid thermal and aural insulation provided by the machine's predecessor, the SLS AMG Roadster, you won't miss having a metallic roof over your head. Speaking of which, since the Mercedes-AMG GT was designed as both a Coupe and a Roadster from the get-go, the test engineers inside the prototype, as well as the future owners, shouldn't feel any handling downside of the roof removal job.

The engine compartments of the two GTs will pack the same two variations of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and we can say the same about the 7-speed dual-clutch transaxle.

Nevertheless, we still don't know whether the GT R mentioned above will also arrive in Roadster trim. We'll remind you that we are talking about a specialized track weapon, with the fixed-roof GT-R having also lapped the Ring recently. That's because the automaker still hasn't announced the Green Hell lap time for the current range-topper. Nevertheless, since the 991 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the one to beat, you should expect a time of under 7:20 for the Affalterbach velocity tool. So yes, we're really hoping the Roadster gets a similar treatment.

Update: Here's a video of the Affalterbach delight lapping the Green Hell. The soundtrack is on the house.
