When Mercedes-AMG came up with the GT, it was no secret that the Affalterbach beast had the Porsche 911 in its sights. And to target the Neunelfer, the GT needed a rich model lineup - after all, the 911 range does hold over twenty derivatives. Well, here we are, talking about what should become the meanest GT of them all, namely the Black Series.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series isn't expected to land until 2020, but we could be dealing with an early prototype. As you'll get to see in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, a GT test car recently hit the Nurburgring (the footage we have here was recorded on both October 31st and November 6th).
It's worth noting that the Nordschleife has closed its gates over the weekend, so it could have made sense for the German engineers to grab an early testing start.
The prototype we have here shows hefty aero elements, with the updates starting at the nose of the vehicle, where the lower front fascia showcases an overly aggressive profile.
Then we have the air extractors placed on the front wings, as well as the hefty-sized rear wing adorning the posterior of the machine.
We're also expecting a carbon fiber diet, which would be more than welcome, since the current range-topper, namely the GT R, tips the scales at a hefty 1,655 kilos (3,650 lbs).
As for the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 under the hood, the engine packs 585 horsepower in GT R trim and we might see it taken past the 650 hp border for the newcomer.
Then again, the test car we have here could be a model slotted in between the R and the future Black Series. For one thing, the vehicle could wear the Clubsport badge, indicating a racecar-inspired setup. If this happens to be the case, we might see the German monster landing next year.
Note that the Mercedes-AMG GT spotting awaits you at the 9:15 point of the video below. The first part of the clip is focused on the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, a customer racecar (you'll find this at the 3:32 and 5:50 points of the video).
