Mercedes-AMG GLS63 Coupe 4MATIC Imagined Because the Sky’s the Limit with SUVs These Days

Lately, the Mercedes-Benz range is doing that thing made famous by the Universe: it is continuously expanding. Unlike the Universe, though, it will have to stop at some point.
It appeared to have reached a few dead ends along the way in the shape of the R-Class fiasco, for example, or the previous generation of the A-Class (which wasn’t really a sales flop, but seriously, you don’t want something looking like that connected with your brand in any way going into the second decade of the 21st century), but now it has found its groove once again.

The mid-cycle facelift for the M-Class, which granted the Mercedes-Benz SUV its new GLE name, also brought the hunchback version Mercedes insists on calling a coupé. The GLE Coupé is a monstrous thing, but not more so than the BMW X6 SAC (Sports Activity Coupé) it was built to compete with. Actually, it might feel a little more stretched than the Beemer, but maybe that’s just because we’ve had more time to get used to its looks.

Now, Mercedes-Benz isn’t expanding, but rather creating a parallel universe with the recently released facelift for the GL-Class that also changes the model’s name into GLS. This full-sized SUV is as serious as they come, a luxury family vehicle with seven seats and the kind of comfort that made Mercedes-Benz call it the “S-Class of SUVs.

Thinking for even one moment that Mercedes-Benz could really consider turning it into a coupé as well is ridiculous, but that didn’t stop X-Tomi from imagining what it would look like if the space-time continuum went AWOL and the Universe actually allowed this to happen. The answer? Predictably appalling. The car is completely off-balanced, not to mention it would make zero sense to build, buy or use even if it were gifted to you for free. And don’t even try to tell us the same goes for the GLE Coupé or the BMW X6 because we might actually agree with you.
