We’ve heard it over and over again in the last few years whenever a new model is released: every manufacturer claims its car is more aggressive. That’s particularly true when it comes to high-powered beasts but what we noticed on the floor of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show is that sometimes it might all be a bit too much.
The example we’re talking about is the brand new Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe (that’s a mouthful) that was released just minutes ago. While on the AMG Sport model things looked ok, the real AMG version is just a bit... too much.

The design seems a bit forced in person, especially when you look directly at it. Admittedly, the Sport Activity Coupe niche is supposed to be all about this sort of feeling, is supposed to be imposing but maybe not to this extent.

Either way, looks might be subjective and everyone has a different opinion but stepping inside the cabin will reveal even more controversial styling cues.

In the front, the windshield seems a bit narrow and short to be honest, the tall dash eating into the field of view. Add in the complicated navigation screen and the numerous buttons that seem to be coming from older cars and the whole mix gives off an impression that doesn’t sit well with claustrophobes.

Getting in the back is not the easiest chore ever as the wheel arches bite into the doors quite a lot. As far as room is concerned, you’ll get a decent amount, even though to us it felt like the X6 has the edge here. In the back, the tall rear bumper will require you lift your bags for a hefty distance before being capable on setting them down in the boot.

Other than that, it was typical Mercedes business at their stand, even Dieter Zetsche, the company’s CEO being on the spot, to stand behind their product.

On the technical side of things, the GLE63 S Coupe comes with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 making 585 HP and 760 Nm of torque, hooked up to 4Matic and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It will do 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.
