Ladies and gentlemen drivers, welcome to the high-riding side of the Mercedes-Benz/Mercedes-AMG Frankfurt range. If you're into compact crossovers that go fast, the GLB 35 has you covered, while those aiming for more space can always check out the GLE 53 Coupe, along with the diesel top dog, namely the GLE 400d Coupe.
We'll kick things off with the GLB 35, which remains the quickest compact crossover with a three-pointed star on its nose, at least until the trully bonkers Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 enters production (here's a recent spy video showcasing the latter testing on the Nurburgring).

Even so, with the GLB 35 borrowing the MFA2 platform and the 2.0-liter turbo-four from the A 35, we're talking about a spicy package with 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque on tap.

Using an 8-speed dual-clutch tranny that sends power to all four corners, the machine can play the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) game in 5.2 seconds, while its top speed is unsurprisingly limited to 250 kph (155 mph).

The two-model stategy also applies to the GLE Coupe, which means we'll have to settle for the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 until the all-out 63 lands, a move that's expected to take place next year.

Then again, the said term isn't exactly appropiate, since we're talking about a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six, which produces 435 hp and of twist.

And thanks to a 48V mild-hybrid system, which involves the carmaker's EQ Boost starter-alternator, you can enjoy an extra 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque for a little while. Just like the non-Coupe version, the slopping roofline mode we have here needs 5.3 seconds to cover the 0 to 100 km/h sprint.

Of course, with this being an Affalterbach model, the exterior, tech side and interior are loaded with extra spice.

If, however, you wish to visit the gas station less often, the GLE 400d Coupe offers 330 hp and 700 Nm of torque. The said numbers come thanks to a 2,925cc straight-six diesel, which takes the car to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. As for the combined fuel efficiency of the crossover, this sits at 7l per 100 km.
