Did you notice that it says "The all-new smart fortwo electric drive" in the background of this photo? Do you even care? No, because the new E63 is making its debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.
AMG models come out quite often, but this one feels really special, as the German engineers have proven they can do a lot more with less, 1.5 liters of... less, to be precise.
That's right, the engine of this legendary performance sedan has been downsized by one MINI Cooper's worth. But because they know what they are doing, the engineers made the E63 faster than before. Going from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes just 3.3 seconds, while the top speed has to be limited to 186mph (300km/h), so keeping up even with modern supercars is possible.
In fact, none of its rivals will be able to touch it in a straight line. The sound is also far superior to that of the BMW M5, probably even the next generation one.
"Oh, but Audi has quattro; you can't touch that," you might say. Except that this new E-Class monster has all-wheel drive as well. And because it has a drift mode, getting the tail out won't be a problem at all. Heck, your tires might even last more than a hundred kilometers, if you're careful.
Many other fans are just as excited about the new E63 S model and what it can do. Some of them can even afford to buy one without a test drive, so Mercedes should have no problem selling the Edition 1, don't you think?
Available for the first year, this special edition model is a tradition for the Affalterbach folks. But we thin this is their best work yet. Instead of cheesy racing stripes and bolt-on wings, they went with a sinister paint finish that would make Batman envious.
The satin tone is called Designo Night Black Magno. It does a great job of enveloping all the curves of this sedan while playing with the light in mysterious ways. The list of extra equipment is pretty long, but we have to mention the black 20-inch wheels, the gloss-black Night Package and the black Nappa leather complete with yellow stitching and AMG Performance seats.
