Mercedes-AMG has been a very busy bee this year. It somehow managed to launch versions of most cars made by the mother company at an alarming rate, flooding the market with high-performance cars at intervals seldom seen in this segment of the industry.
The most recent such versions are the cars in the souped-up A- and CLA-Class lineups, which got the A 45 4MATIC+ and CLA 45 4MATIC+ designation at the beginning of August. And now that the price list for the two cars was released, the image is complete.

The two models are closely related, as they use mostly the same underpinnings, the same engine and, most importantly, largely the same design tweaks meant to increase performance, signed by AMG.

The most important component the two cars share is the 2.0-liter engine that works in conjunction with a new AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT-8G dual-clutch transmission.

AMG calls this unit the "world's most powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine manufactured for series production" as it develops 387 hp and 480 Nm of torque in the base variant of the A 45 and CLA 45, and even more, 421 hp, on the S versions.

As said, Mercedes-AMG released the price list for the new cars and their many variants. The entry-level of the two ranges is the A 45 4MATIC+, which now sells in Germany from €56,227.50 (the S is priced at €61,820.50).

The CLA 45 4MATIC+ retails for €60,095 (S version is priced at € 65,688). The most expensive model of the range is the CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ Shooting Brake, for which the Germans are asking €66,283 in "S" guise (€60,690 for the non-S version).

Both the A 45 and CLA 45 have been created by the Germans to attract newer customers to the brand, be it from the competitors or from the pool of Benz customers that are ready to make the switch to a higher-performance car.
