At first, there was the C 450 AMG Sport 4Matic. Now Mercedes-Benz has changed its mind (they're kind of good at it, by the way) and the C 450 AMG Sport 4Matic will be renamed Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic. Other than the name change, what does the C 43 4Matic bring new?
Uhm, nothing else. Sorry! That’s Mercedes-Benz branding for you. Nevertheless, the C 43 4Matic is a tough cookie to crack. Although it’s not the full-on C 63, the C 43 plays second fiddle like a champ thanks to a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that churns out 367 horsepower and 384 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque. Of course, 4Matic AWD is a standard feature that keeps everything nice and safe when the weather gets bad.

Speaking of which, AMG models will soon transition from 4Matic to another brand name for the all-wheel-drive system. As reported in our exclusive material, AMG models enhanced with AWD will be christened one of the following: 4Dynamic, 4Action, 4Grip, Active4, or 4Power. And guess what? This won’t bring anything new except for the new handle.

Oh, Mercedes, how inconclusive and irrelevant your marketing has become. Oh, sorry, forgot about the C 43 4Matic. Already on sale in the United Kingdom and Germany in four-door sedan or T-Modell (station wagon) body styles, the six-cylinder brute starts at £44,460 or €60,065, respectively. Compared to the Mercedes-AMG C 63 in sedan form, that accounts for a pricing difference of £16,240 or €16,214, respectively.

If you put an order on a C 43 4Matic right now, the first orders are due this fall. Don’t forget to tick a box on the options list that reads AMG Performance Exhaust System to get a load of that twin-turbo V6’s howl. In related news, the UK-spec Mercedes-Benz C-Class is now available with 4Matic all-wheel-drive in the C 200 (Coupé only), C 220 d and C 250 d (Sport and AMG Line trims only).
