Want an AMG hot hatch that's not quite as hardcore as the A45? You're in luck because Mercedes is about to debut the all-new A35.
September has seen a steady barrage of new Mercedes-Benz models, and it shows no signs of stopping. Just as we reported recently, the A35 from the AMG division is going to debut at the Paris Motor Show this year.
The latest set of teaser images show both the front and the rear end of the car. With these two things, we pretty much know what the A35 looks like, and it's surprisingly good. The production car looks way better than all the test prototypes.
For starters, it's bright yellow, like a Renault. The designers have also added a massive bolt-on trunk wing. No, not a spoiler; a wing, and it's black.
The body kit isn't wildly different to the AMG Line. But you do have some extra black aero, which we suspect are optional. You can easily tell that it's not the A35, though, as the grille doesn't follow the Panamericana design. Also, the exhaust system has two small pipes.
And since the rumor about the A35 coming to Paris turned out to be true, it means the horsepower numbers are correct as well. Obviously, it's going to have a 2-liter turbo, as every good hot hatch should. But this Golf R rival will pack 340 HP and 430 Nm of torque. Doesn't that have a nice ring to it?
We expect a 0 to 100 km/h time of around 4 seconds, thanks in part to the launching abilities of its 4Matic all-wheel-drive and 7-speed DCT. One thing the A35 won't do is keep costs down. We expect it to start at about €40,000 or more in Germany.
