Mercedes-AMG A35 Drag Races A45, The Result Is Surprising

Remember how showing the introduction of the original Mercedes-AMG A45 was? With Affalterbach squeezing 360 horsepower out of a two-liter engine, the automotive world went mad, right down to the memes talking about the said capacity being fit for milk bottles rather than engines. However, the formula proved successful, with the engine even being pushed to 381 ponies for the facelift of the hot hatch. So how does the latter model compare to the new Mercedes-AMG A35?

You see, for the fourth incarnation of the A-Class, the German automaker decided to introduce a pair of Affalterbach-touched models, the 305 hp A35 and the just-around-the-corner A45, with the latter expected to pack north of 400 ponies (more on this below).

Well, to answer the question above, I've brough along a video that shows the retiring A45 duking it out with the A35.

Sure, the new kid on the block is some 80 hp down in this race, but perhaps the fresh Launch Control tech can help.

Truth be told, this battle doesn't seem to be entire objective. That's because racing driver Archie Hamilton, who is behind the wheel of the new kid, is the one doing the countdown before each of the three sprinting sessions involved in the adventure - the first two involve standing starts, while the third brings a a rolling takeoff that sees the two Mercs battling from 30 mph.

Those of you who are in a hurry, should know that the first standing start battle awaits you at the 2:42 point of the clip, while the second can be found at the 4:32 point.

Returning to the upcoming 2020 Mercedes-AMG A45, you can check this out completing the final stages of its development here (this tale is about prototype testing at the Green Hell). As is the norm for Mercedes-AMG models these days, there will be a standard model, along with an S tune - the official outputs, which wave already been confiemd, place the first at 387 hp and the latter at 420 horses.
