To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the AMG brand, the Germans are going to launch their first compact AMG hatchback model, called the A45 AMG. The car is based in the regular A-Class but is miles ahead of its lesser brothers in terms of performance.
At the heart of the machine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, borrowed from the A250, but boosted to a scarcely believable 350 PS and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. The AMG A-Class’ closest rival will be the 320 PS BMW M135i powered by a 3-liter engine and maybe the outgoing RS3 Sportback with its 340 PS 2.5-liter turbo.
The A45 AMG will come standard with a Haldex all-wheel drive system and an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports dual clutch.
These fresh photos show the hot new AMG almost completely uncovered, with only the lower part of the front grille covered up. The body kit is similar to the AMG Sport styling package offered on the regular A-Class. However, this car has different 18-inch multispoke alloy wheels a single bar grille with honeycomb mesh and trapezoidal exhaust. The color is also unique and reminds us of a Renault Clio RS for some reason.
