Mercedes 280SE 3.5L Cabrio Up for Grabs

The upcoming auction event by Historics at Brooklands will include a special Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5l Cabrio, one of only 55 RHD models built, and expected to fetch around GBP 70,000 - 90,000. According to Historics at Brooklands, this is 10 times greater than its GBP7,249 price at the time of its launch.

“In the same year as Janis Joplin penned the famous line, “Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz”, the finishing touches were being applied - by hand - to a stunning 280SE 3.5 litre Cabriolet, which has now become the latest showpiece to be consigned for sale,”
a company statement reads.

“And the American singer/songwriter’s words will no doubt strike ‘accord’ amongst fans of the German automaker, as this eminently appealing 1970 ‘Benz is one of only approximately 55 right-hand drive models of its kind.”

The 3.5 litre version of the 280SE was equipped with twin headlights and adorned with more chrome trim – in addition to the iconic oversized grille - to cater for its wider, bigger bow. With the car also sitting one inch closer to the floor than the straight-six model, the 3.5 litre V8 is considered by any extremely appealing.

With the odometer showing just 21,981 miles from new, the car has been carefully maintained, with some GBP12,000 spent on the paintwork and a further GBP5000 invested on re-trimming the interior.

“The luxurious, five-seater convertible epitomises the Mercedes-Benz marque, with much sought-after styling mated to a high-performance 3.5 litre V8 engine, and is a fine example of why both demand, and price, is continuing to increase.”
