The Batman’s Tumbler Batmobile was first seen by a Shanghai police officer, but it only took a couple of days for its creator, a 26-year old prop maker named Lil Wilei, to become popular. In fact, the black vehicle is so accurate, that local business owners are already lining up to rent the rolling publicity stunt for $1,600 (EUR 1,176) per day.
Well, we all know the remarkable job Chinese makers are doing when it comes to replicas, don’t we? But this youngsters’ creation is really astonishing. Considering Lil and his friends only payed around 70,000 yuan ($11,000/ EUR8,090) and took two months to build it, we have to admit it looks pretty nice.
According to shanghaiist.com, the model was made out of 10 tons of scrape metal and finished just ahea of the opening “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2”. The doors can be opened and the car has a driver seat, but there is no engine and the wheels don’t turn.
However, considering the big success they had, people actually paying money to them to rent the vehicle, it was only natural they wouldn’t stop at only one Batmobile replica. “We’ve built a dozen Batman’s cars. Two of them are in Shanghai, while the rest are on display in other parts of the country,” one of the builders told the source.
Well, if you ask us, we can tell you that they used more than one tires to build the front wheel, probably because they didn’t afford the normal original one. Nonetheless, thinking off the actual Tumbler Batmobile that just arrived in Miami for the Gumball 3000 rally, we’ll have to admit we like the real one more.
