The official world premiere of the BMW Z4 Zagato coupe was planned for this weekend’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, in Italy, however, BMW presented the concept just before its debut.
First things first, the car looks stunning. Why don’t BMW employ Zagato to design all of their cars? It is miles ahead in terms of style and design, finesse and proportionality. It was clearly not designed by someone named Adrian, and looks more like a car designed by a Giancarlo or a Gianluca – someone really Latin, without any hint of a German influence.
Entire pages could be filled with praise for the new design and how BMW should put it into production, yesterday, but the fact of the matter is that it’s a design study, created to gather feedback. We have no doubt that it will be genuinely positive feedback, and it could even get a few people excited.
An important fact to note is that BMW are not calling this a ‘concept’, simply referring to it as the ‘Zagato Coupe’ and nothing more. This could mean that they are indeed planning a production version. The interior of the car genuinely looks production-ready, so all the signs are good. If this car does go on sale, it will have Italian styling and German engineering – an unbeatable combination, regardless of how much it will cost.
