Meet Anki Overdrive, the Video Game that Will Take Out Slot-Car Tracks

Sorry folks, but chances are you’ll have close to none ideas of what your kid will be playing with, in about ten years' time. Things evolve so fast today; technology is getting that smart that you simply wished you could have chosen the date of your birth. Anki is a young company that some have said is starting a “consumer robotics revolution.” What we know for sure is that their latest innovation sure changes the way we used to think of slot-car tracks.

Anki Drive was the San Francisco-based company’s first product to use their technology that programs physical objects to be intelligent and adaptable in the physical world. The founders have created this technology to solve the problems of positioning, reasoning, as well as execution in artificial intelligence and robotics.

Considered as the first video game programmed for the physical world, Anki Drive is a racing game that combines an iOS app with physical race cars. The gameplay becomes more immersive and strategic over time.

Believe it or not, apparently the cars act somewhat independent, as characters with their own personality traits and strengths. Users can play against each other or against the Anki system’s artificial intelligence.

Now, we’d normally know about these sort of gaming systems, but for some reason it’s the first time we stumbled upon this puppy. The second edition of the game called Anki Overdrive will hit the stores this fall and promises even better features than the previous edition.

The new game will come with a modular track system that lets the player snap pieces together quickly with magnetic connectors. One can build and rebuild endless numbers of unique battlefields in seconds and get racing.

According to Anki, there’s a new range of high-tech, intelligent supercars to choose from. Built in computers combined with visual sensors make sure the player keeps his car on track even during the most legendary battle moments.

We’ll leave you with the video trailer below to get a better picture.
