Mecum Auction Sells Over 1,000 Vehicles

The 23rd Annual Original Spring Classic Mecum Auction is proof enough that the economic crisis is just a scarecrow for the poor. The event managed to rid itself of over 1,000 vehicles at the sale held in between May 19-23 in Indianapolis, for prices ranging from $250,000 for a 1965 Pontiac GTO GeeTO Tiger and all the way to $925,000 for a 1963 Harley J. Earl Corvette. And that's only the top ten best priced sales, because in all, the auction raised $41.7 million.

“A high-energy crowd and eager bidders participated in our flagship Original Spring Classic Auction, which had a final sell-through rate of 66%,” auction president Dana Mecum said in a statement. “As our largest annual event, we strive to give enthusiasts a wide variety of vehicles to see, enjoy and purchase."

"The buildings at the Indiana State Fairgrounds were packed wall to wall with everything from rare pace cars, exotic Mercedes-Benz and Model T’s to wooden boats, a Howard airplane and neon signs. There truly was something for every taste and budget.”
