The McLaren X-1 one-off sportscar was spotted last weekend in Bahrain, where the fourth 2013 Formula 1 season Grand Prix took place, at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
The supercar developed by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) and introduced in 2012 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was seen in a private area near the race track, and stood there long enough for some shots to be taken and spread around the internet.
Based on the MP4-12C, the X-1 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that can send 616 HP to the ground. Developed for a wealthy customer in a process that took three year, the X-1 took its styling cues from cars like the 1961 Facel Vega, 1953 Chrysler D’Elegance Ghia, 1959 Buick Electra, 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K and the 1971 Citroen SM.
While its design is controversial, the X-1 is bound to become a highly expensive collectible thanks to its uniqueness.
