Owning a super car like the Mclaren Senna may turn out to be not so complete of an experience without having some gadgets to go along with it. And what better gadget than a watch? Not just any watch, but a Richard Mille one.
The British sports car builder announced over the weekend that it has partnered with the famous timepiece manufacturer to introduce an on-of-a-kind timepiece, on display at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
Officially, McLaren did not name what car from which the watch will take inspiration from, limiting themselves at saying that it “will be honoring one of the new McLaren models being introduced in Geneva.”
Along with the announcement, McLaren released what can be the equivalent of a teaser for watches, a very cryptic image showing nothing, really. According to them, just as the Senna, the watch will also be bult in limited numbers.
McLaren calls the yet unnamed watch a first limited-edition timepiece, but the two companies have collaborated before, for the aptly named RM 50-03 Tourbillon Split Seconds Chronograph Ultralight McLaren F1.
“Both companies have a reputation for luxury and a strong desire to be at the cutting edge of technology while striving for excellence and rarity in everything they do,” explains McLaren without revealing any facts in a statement.
The facts that we do know about concern the Senna, the supercar in black and yellow that would take center stage at McLaren’s booth in Geneva. To show up wearing a Carbon Theme, the supercar hides underneath a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that develops 800 horsepower and 800 Nm (590 pound-feet) of torque. Zero to sixty acceleration time is rated at 2.7 seconds.
McLaren will only build 500 models of the Senna, to be sold for three times as much as the auto builder asked for the 720S: it wears a price tag of $958,966, plus taxes.
