McLaren to Discuss Team Orders with Ferrari Privately

Ferrari's actions in the German Grand Prix triggered some huge criticism from both the media and fellow F1 competitors. Nobody was OK with the team orders the Scuderia enforced on its drivers late in the race, especially since it brought Fernando Alonso back into the title fight for the 2010 championship.

Curiously enough though, its rivals from McLaren Mercedes decided to stay off the record regarding this saga, with team principal Martin Whitmash telling the media he'll express his views in a private conversation with his Ferrari counterpart Stefano Domenicali.

I don't want to get drawn into it. I have my own private views on it. They were quicker than us today; they got a 1-2, but perhaps in a different order from that which people may have thought was right. I will give my private views to Ferrari, but I don't want to go on record and express those views,” said Whitmarsh, according to Autosport.

The British team official is also the chairman of the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA), so the discussion could have some additional effects over the teams' behavior in such situations for the future.

Whitmarsh did however hint that he's not at all shocked with Ferrari's strategy, as this kind of team ordering behavior is a common thing at the Scuderia, having been implemented in the Michael Schumacher days constantly.

All I know is the same as you. I heard what I heard, I saw what I saw, but it is for others to comment on. Ferrari were quick and we did what we could - and they raced how they raced. That was not a new approach from Ferrari, was it?” rhetorically asked the McLaren boss.

Ferrari have been handed a $100,000 fine by the FIA – courtesy of the FIA stewards' decision after the race – following their strategy in Germany, a penalty that wasn't appealed by the Scuderia. They will also appear before the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) to explain their actions in August, when the FIA will make a final decision on the German GP events.
