Despite the initial skepticism, super-SUVs are enjoying more traction than ever, so while players such as Lamborghini, Porsche and Jaguar are already at the table, names such as Ferrari and Aston Martin are preparing to enter the game. Then again, there's one key velocity marque that continues to steer clear of the high-riding segment and I'm talking about McLaren here.
Of course, the Internet doesn't like to be kept from dreaming, which is why it has recently replied with a fresh rendering of a McLaren SUV and you are now looking at it - pixel tip to carnewsnetwork for this image.
Sure, the Porsche roots of the pixel play sitting before us are obvious, but the image still managed to give us an idea of how a McLaren SUV could look like.
One of the main reasons for which Woking doesn't want to jump the crossover bandwagon is the fact that such a path might risk diluting its identity. After all, the British company has only returned to the road car business in 2011, with the MP4-12C (here's a review of the supercar).
Then again, the automaker puts things differently. For instance, here's what Tony Joseph, president of McLaren North America, told Automotive News last year: "We have been a company in existence for a long time prior to automotive and we're a profitable company, so there's really no need to go into SUVs,"
The executive added: “We want to concentrate just on two-seat sports cars and be known as the iconic sports car company,”
There are still plenty of aficionados who won't accept the disconnected driving experience SUVs ultimately offer and I happen to be in this camp. Nevertheless, if we must have such machines, I would be curious to see the results deriving from Mclaren's go-fast expertise.
