McLaren Automotive has something called the Special Operations Division, and these guys sure love to show off.
For the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance, the place where the highest-profile competitive display of collector cars is organized for the 18th year in a row, McLaren has let the MSO Division prepare a car. This event will also mark the four-year anniversary of the bespoke unit, which was also launched during the Pebble Beach event.

The first addition to the McLaren 570 GT is an electrochromic roof, which is capable of concealing or revealing sunlight through the press of a button. Instead of sliding some textile or metal partition, the “electro” part of the roof just changes the opacity of the glass roof, thus providing an entirely matte roof, or a whole clear one, depending on customer wish at a particular point in time.

McLaren has already announced it will offer this roof as optional equipment through the MSO defined portfolio, something that will happen to all of the enhancements exhibited by this concept vehicle.

Improvements for the McLaren 570 GT do not end here, as the concept car comes with material advances, as well as styling changes and other features.

Customers will be able to order the new MSO Exhaust system, as exhibited on this concept, which provides a 30% weight reduction thanks to the fact that it is made out of titanium instead of the commoners’ stainless steel.

The same exhaust system comes with a golden titanium nitride tint that can bee seen through the rear air ducts. Depending on the temperature of the exhaust, the heat shields will change color to a blue or purple hue.

On an exterior level, the exhibit comes in the Elite Pearl White shade. The rest of the elements come in MSO Piano Black, which has a deep gloss black finish. Some of the exterior details, like the side sills, go with a gloss finish of the carbon fiber that composes them.

Since the 570 GT is a Grand Tourer, the interior has been customized to enhance this character. The changes include Saddle Tan leather upholstery, which is complemented by a 12-speaker audio system from Bowers and Wilkins. The carbon fiber interior ornaments are also finished in Gloss Lacquer.

The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 M838TE engine of the McLaren 570 GT remains stock, complete with 570 HP and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft). The power goes straight to the rear wheels through the seven-speed transmission. The vehicle is capable of a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in just 3.4 seconds, while 0-200 km/h (124 mph) is done in only 9.8 seconds. Top speed is rated at 328 km/h (204 mph).

Sebastian's love for cars began at a young age. Little did he know that a career would emerge from this passion (and that it would not, sadly, involve being a professional racecar driver). In over fourteen years, he got behind the wheel of several hundred vehicles and in the offices of the most important car publications in his homeland.
