McLaren Shows Epic P1 GTR Track Car Ahead of Geneva Debut

As if the P1 hypercar wasn't bonkers and extreme enough, the Brits are launching another version called the P1 GTR. It's going to be lighter; it's going to be grippier; it's going to be totally insane and make you forget about the LaFerrari FXX.

Designed to be the most exclusive McLaren built to date, the P1 GTS will bow at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. It follows from where the P1 GTR Design Concept left off, during last year's Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The bad news is that you won't be able to drive one on the road, at least not legally. The good news is that this has freed it up do pull every trick in the book. The rear wing is massive and has been fixed in place, deleting the hydraulics in the process. Together with a lower chassis, the front splitter and modified diffuser increase downforce.

The P1 GTS also runs on slicks and has a wider track McLaren claims that all the engineering work they've done resulted in power-to-weight ratio increase in excess of 10 percent over the road-going model, reaching more than 700 hp per ton. That's still not the 1-1 ratio reached by Koenigsegg One:1, but still very impressive. Expect the electric motor and 3.8-liter V8 to offer a combined output of 1,000 PS (736 kW).

The interior is absolutely spartan. We don’t as of yet have the dry weight of the vehicle, but it's pretty obvious that around 100 kilos or 220 lbs of comfort features and unnecessary weight have been stripped off. Everything is made from unpainted carbon fiber, including the steering wheel, which has been modeled after Lewis Hamilton’s Formula One car.
