Based on the 570S, the 600LT is the most extreme Sports Series model in the lineup. Both the coupe and spider are limited in numbers, and as far as the U.S. is concerned, the final 12 examples of the breed come in the guise of the Segestria Borealis by MSO.
Apparently inspired by “a venomous arachnid” called Segestria Florentina, the dozen Maccas feature an exterior design theme that centers around the Borealis MSO Defined black paintwork. Deep green, claret, and purple undertones are visible depending on the light’s angle, and along with the MSO Bespoke Napier Green garnish, this car certainly looks interesting. Unlike any 600LT Spider before it, to be more precise.
Interior upgrades include lots of carbon fiber for the dashboard trim, racing seats, contrast stitching, and Napier green for elements such as the steering wheel’s center stripe and the spider webs embroidered into the headrests. The visual drama, however, is backed up by serious performance from the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and the carbon-fiber chassis.
Capable of 592 horsepower (600 PS as the 600LT Spider moniker implies) and 457 pound-feet (620 Nm) of torque at the crankshaft, the M838T sends the suck-squeeze-bang-blow to the rear axle with the help of a Graziano SSG seven-speed transmission. 60 miles per hour (97 kph) take 2.8 seconds from a standstill, and the fixed rear wing is said to generate 220.5 pounds (100 kilograms) of downforce at 155 mph (250 kph).
The Segestria Borealis by MSO also happens to carve corners rather well thanks to forged aluminum for the double-wishbone suspension, recalibrated dampers over the 570S Spider, firmer engine mounts, and lighter brakes. Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R rubber shoes come standard, track-focused tires that don’t really work in wet and/or cold weather conditions.
“The McLaren 600LT Spider Segestria Borealis by MSO is a singular example of the visionary, creative approach to the artistry of McLaren Special Operations. Like any 600LT, it is a purposeful, single-minded, and menacing creation,” said North America president Anthony Joseph.
