McLaren P13 Sportscar Shaping Up to Be a Porsche 911 Rival

Right now, McLarens come in two flavors – spicy and “oh god my mouth is on fire”. There’s the 600 and a bit horsepower MP4-12C that is a British interpretation of the Ferrari 458, and there’s the new P1 hybrid hypercar that’s like a British version of… God.

But the company is now looking to offer something a lot less extreme that could help them graduate to the rank of normal car company. No, it’s not an SUV, it’s a sportscar, in the same sport of space occupied by the Porsche 911 Carrera S.

According to a report from AutoExpress, the P13 will be the entry point to the McLaren range and will offer only 450 bhp. This power should come from the same 3.8-liter V8, supposedly with the turbos in place, though we fail to see why such a big engine would need turbos to make only 450 ponies.

The other big piece of information revealed by the report is the price: £120,000 or there about. Purely based on conversion rates, that would be €140,000 or $195,000, though it should be cheaper in America.

Development is almost over, so the P13 will reveal its secrets in 2014 and go on sale the year after that.
