Predictably, the past weekend has brought tons of action on the Nurburgring and yet we didn't expect to see a machine as exclusive and fast as the McLaren P1 LM going for a Touristenfahrten (Tourist Days) drive.
Heck, these public driving sessions can see people crashing into you out of the blue and thus seeing one the only five examples sold to the public playing with normal cars was quite a surprise.
Come to think of it, if this 986 hp (1,000 PS) devil would be mixed with a driver possessing solid Ring knowledge and an empty track, it should be able to steal the Porsche 918 Spyder's trophy - the Zuffenhausen halo car still holds the Nurburgring production vehicle lap record, with a time of 6:57.
So, why would we be ready to bet on a new record in the hypothetical conditions mentioned above? Well, the P1 LM is the final and most fierce incarnation of Woking's range-topper. For instance, when compared to the P1 GTR, the racing version of the hybrid supercar, the LM delivers a whopping 40 percent boost regarding downforce.
And since the F1 LM didn't go all out on the Ring, we'd like to remind you of a time when the sixth car, which stays with its maker, was put through its paces on the track.
We're talking this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, which saw the LM setting a new track record. The hypercar went round the tight 1.12-mile course in 47.07 seconds, but this wasn't the fastest time of the 2016 FoS.
Instead, that title went to a Time Attack-prepped Subaru Impreza WRX STI, which complete the task in 46.29s. However, since nobody bothered with the mods required by road homologation for the Scooby, the two ran in different classes.
Returning the P1 LM adventure we have here, you can check out the gas-electric hypercar's Nurburgring adventure in the piece of footage below. We've also added a second clip at the bottom of the page, which gives you a more complete look at the P1 LM's Ring episode.
