McLaren P1 GTR Design Concept to Be Unveiled at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

When it made its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar had some very big shoes to fill in. It may not be as untamed and fast as the legendary F1, but the P1 is a helluva machine all things considered. Now guess what – a track-focused GTR variant is in the pipeline!

The sketch above is a teaser for the extreme version of the P1, which will be presented in the flesh to a few lucky journalists on August 15th at the McLaren Brand Center and will make its public debut at Pebble Beach the same weekend. From the official teaser sketch we've been provided with, we can tell that the most ballistic P1 yet gets a racy makeover. Just look at the humongous rear wing and those two big exhaust pipes sticking right above the aggresive aerodynamic diffuser.

The McLaren P1 GTR clearly means business. Other notable changes from the not so mundane P1 include wider wheel arches and side skirts, as well as bigger diameter lightweight rims. The British manufacturer tells that the GTR was "conceived in response to requests from buyers of the road legal McLaren P1 for a track focused edition of their car." The GTR will be available for purchase only to this group as a programme that includes driving events, training and vehicle support.

Expected to deliver a whopping 1,000 ponies from its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and electric motor, the GTR has been confirmed to enter production in June 2015, when the 375th and final example of the road-going car will be built - two decades since the 24 Hours of Le Mans win of the iconic McLaren F1 GTR.
