McLaren P1 Drag Races Bugatti Veyron, Battle Has Painful Consequences

With Bugatti still keeping us on our toes for the Chiron release, Veyron owners are getting wilder and wilder these days. Since the untouchable aura around the W16 machine has faded, the Bugatti now relies mostly on its performance to impress.

This means seeing a Veyron taking part in a drag race isn't that much of a rare occasion these days. The most recent example of such a fight comes from the footage below, which sees the Bug battling it out with a Mclaren P1.

Let's talk figures first, shall we?

We're talking about a 2011 Veyron here, which means we're dealing with 1,001 metric hp and a peak torque of 922 lb-ft (1,250 Nm).

As for the hypercar born in Woking, its gas-electric powertrain allows the driver to control 916 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm), provided that the battery is fully charged.

Still, the weight difference between the two sits at just under 1,000 lbs (453 kg) and it's not difficult to guess the lighter piece of hardware here. Despite the hybrid propulsion system, the carbon fiber used for the Big Mac allows it to show an impressive scale figure.

While the Veyron does have the all-wheel-drive advantage, this is completely irrelevant here, since the two turn to a rolling start. Keep in mind the dusty start area would've increased the Bug's take-off advantage.

The battle takes the form of a half-mile race, with the trap speed comparo showing a clear winner.

Fortunately, the footage below doesn't stick to the view outside the cars, as it also takes us into the cabin of the P1 for a complete view of the eventful race.

The aural side of the clip isn't all that rich. Then again, with none of the two contenders being known for their memorable voices, we didn't expect the soundtrack to be as great as the velocity.
