McLaren P1 Battles Veyron in The Mother of All Street Races

When people attend events such as the Goldrush Rally, things sometimes fall into the more or less legal category known as “street racing”. The 2014 edition of the Rally is taking place as we are speaking and we’re here to show you one of the... highlights.

To be more specific, we’re talking about a drag race between a McLaren P1 and a Bugatti Veyron. Despite their hypercar status, the two are not exactly matching competitors.

For one thing, this is a comparison where the McLaren F1 also has a place. Think about it, while the Veyron and the P1 were launched 8 years away, 13 years separate the F1 and the Veyron. Nonetheless, the difference in terms of eras is nowhere near as rich as that in terms of performance.

In a theoretical drag race, the Bugatti would grab the start, thanks to its all-wheel drive, but we expect the P1 to cancel that advantage surprisingly quick. Still, the Veyron dominates the McLaren in terms of top speed. So, despite the P1 being faster at “regular” triple digit speeds, the Bugatti would eventually catch up and overtake.

However, we aren’t dealing with anything theoretical here. Like we said, this is the 2014 Goldrush Rally, so things are as practical as they get. For instance, despite this being a sort of “mother of all street races”, none of the two monsters is knows for its particularly loud voice, so don’t expect a matching soundtrack. The “camera car”, a Mercedes SLS AMG would definitely be better at this game.

Oh and by the way, we're expecting "built not bought" guys to strongly disagree about the part with this being "the mother of all street races".
