When it comes to the McLaren P1, paint is pretty much ridiculous, since all it does is cover the special carbon fiber texture of the hypercar.
Woking is well aware of this, which is why the upcoming Geneva Motor Show will see the company's MSO division showcasing an exposed carbon P1.
A second MSO effort, which is just as important, will allow us to see a one-off 650LT Spider with (you've guessed it) even more carbon panels than the "standard" car. This also happens to be the fastest street legal convertible McLaren, but we'll get back to that in a minute, since we want to cover the retired hypercar first.
McLaren may have recently ended P1 production, but the automaker has saved the best for last, with the example we'll see at the Swiss event being one of the most special P1s out there.
One lucky customer has commissioned MSO to fulfill his visible carbon desires, with the material having been hand-laid and covered with a custom Lio Blue lacquer. The car has been offered to its owner earlier this year, but this is the first time when we'll be able to check it out.
Other delicious bits and pieces include a 24-carat gold plated exhaust heatshied (a nod to the McLaren F1) and Gloss Black wheels. As for the interior, MSO specialists have spilled carbon black Alcantara all over the cabin.
The 675LT Spider mentioned above is unlike the rest of the 499 examples the automaker is building. That's thanks to the MSO touches, chief among which is an extended use of carbon panels.
Even the foldable roof is made of carbon, saving 2 lbs (1 kg) over the standard top. Once again, the titanium exhaust gets a 24-carat gold heatshield. As for the interior, the Brits have covered the racing seats in Alcantara, using Xenon Yellow as a contrasting color.
However, McLaren's Geneva booth won't be all about MSO. As those of you following Woking know, the company will introduce a new member of the Sports Series (the one including the 570S), as well as display the recently-introduced 650S GT3 racecar.
