We know you’ve waited a long time for this and so have we: the McLaren MP4-12C has finally set a Nurburgring laptime!
Sport Auto’s Editor in Chief, Horst von Saurma-Jeltsch, manhandled the British supercar around the Nordschleife, setting a laptime of seven minutes and 28 seconds.
However, when it comes to comparing times, things are pretty complicated. The adjacent video gives us a list of laptimes and places the MP4-12C way ahead of its closest rival the Ferrari 458 Italia, which has a time of 7:38. In fact, in the top posted in the video, it beats a huge list of other supercars, including the 530 hp Nissan GT-R (7:34).
But on fastestlaps.com, we find that the Ferrari 458 Italia has a time of 7:28 and the GT-R can do it in 7:24. One explanation would be that the latter times were posted by the carmakers themselves, while the former come from Sport Auto.
You can watch the adjacent video for a test of the Green Hell action, but the uncut version of the lap hasn’t been released yet.
