McLaren MP4-12C Pricing Revealed [Updated]

One of the automotive breeds that has managed to laugh in the face of the global downturn is the supercar segment. Even though other kind of projects are getting the ax, the supercars are coming to our world in greater numbers and with increased outputs.

However, we mustn’t forget that supercars do come with a hefty price - we know it’s easy to do so, as their charm can easily make you forget about the financial burden. Well, today is one of those days that reminds us of the real world value of a supercar.

To get to the point, we’ll tell you that McLaren has just released the UK pricing for the MP4-12C. The vehicle, which is scheduled to hit the market in the course of the following year can be yours for GBP168,500 (EUR199,304 or $266,075 at the current exchange rates). The price includes VAT (the new 20 percent value that will be introduced in 2011), but excludes the first registration tax and road fund license.

This means that the car will blow a GBP1,000 (EUR1,183 or $1,579) smaller hole in your bank account than one of its main competitors, the Ferrari 458 Italia.

We’ll remind you that the supercar is powered by a twin-turbo 3.8 liter V8 that delivers 600 hp. The unit is mated to a seven-speed Seamless Shift dual clutch gearbox (SSG).

McLaren engineers have worked hard to introduce multiple weight-saving solutions for the vehicle. The perfect example of such a development would be the car's Carbon MonoCell that not only cuts weight but also allows for the installation of lighter body panels.

Update: European market pricing set at EUR 200,000.
