The first McLaren car built for racing outside of Formula 1 since the McLaren F1 GTR has already had its baptism of asphalt this year, but to promote the car and its customer racing programs the British automaker from Woking has released this promo video, compiling footage of the various incarnations of the car that sees racing in Le Mans series as well as the GT3 class.
The GT3 race car is built around a carbon fiber MonoCell chassis with aluminum front and rear frames and bespoke carbon body panels. Power comes from a 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo McLaren M838T, though output varies from series to series.
Over the standard road car, obvious aerodynamic improvements include front and rear diffuser, front splitter, dive planes and adjustable rear wing.
“Production of the 12C GT3 has been deliberately limited, as McLaren GT plans to develop close relationships and provide ongoing engineering support to its customers racing in 2012 and beyond. This limited production run of race cars will be distributed among private owners and race teams for racing in Europe next year,” the automaker said in a statement made in October 2011.
