McLaren MP4-12C Gathers 2,700 Pre-Orders

The supercars are laughing in the face of the global downturn again, as one of their own has managed to find a hefty number of potential buyers. This time, one of their newest representatives, the McLaren MP4-12C, has received over 2,700 pre-orders, as autocar writes.

As McLaren’s development plans for the car will see the company bring 1,000 units to life per year, it means that the entire production for a period of almost three years is already booked.

The supercar’s production will be debuted later this year at the McLaren Technology Centre, with the automotive producer now making the final tweaks to the car. The car will be priced bellow the 175,000 pounds level (EUR200,000 or $270,000).

The MP4-12C is powered by a 3.8 liter V8 unit that uses twin-turbocharging to offer 592 hp at 7,000 rpm (don’t worry the engine can be revved an extra 1,500) and a maximum torque of 442 lb-ft, which is offered from 3,000 rpm. The powerplant is mated to an SSG seven speed dual clutch sequential transmission that uses the following driving modes: normal, sport, automatic, winter (as well as offered with a launch control function). This sends the power and torque wave to the car’s rear wheels.

The carbon fiber vehicle only needs 3.8 seconds to show 62 mph on the speedo and can take its occupants up to a speed of over 186 mph (300 km/h).

Our say: This should offer McLaren more chances to develop the F1’s successor, which should allow the company to play with one or two road car performance records again.
