McLaren F1 Successor Coming in 2012

McLaren is bombing the world with news related to the MP4-12C supercar, covering every possible aspect, from the bolts used for the chair in which Ron Dennis took the decision to build the car to the angle at which your hair rises at the sound of the vehicle's exhaust.

However, it seems that the company is also working on something a bit different. The automotive manufacturer is working on a successor for the benchmark-setter, mind-blowing (and the list could go on until the end of words) McLaren F1, with the vehicle potentially hitting the market in 2012, as autocar reports.

The new F1 is currently part of a development plan that sits somewhere at the top of the automotive industry (in terms of the project’s speed).

McLaren insiders have told the aforementioned source that the company’s engineers are putting the new F1 development pedal to the metal, preparing a “revolutionary” hypercar. The upcoming vehicle promises to offer a distinctive design, unlike the MP4-12C, which has a pretty common shape for a car of its kind.

The new F1 will use a carbon monocoque that is similar to that featured on the MP4-12C, as well as a centrally-mounted powerplant. Unfortunately, the question that is on everybody’s lips (will the new F1 inherit the central driving position?) can’t be answered yet.

The F1’s successor will be one of the three models in McLaren’s future range. The third vehicle will be an entry-level one, which will be placed under the MP4-12C.
