Has any automotive enthusiast failed to hear the words “Back to the Future” and DeLorean DMC-12 mentioned in the same sentence at least once? We assume the opposite, so let’s just get to the part where other vehicles play the latter’s role.
Internet dwellers know very well that some fetishes come and go like a passing comet – aka those crazy milk crate challenges or the Squid Game vogue – while others tend to stick around for years or even decades. There are many examples, but let’s just focus on a singular, particular case.
Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale’s science fiction comedy franchise belongs to the latter category. And, as such, there are remarkably high chances that even Generation Alpha members will know a little something about that old flick called “Back to the Future.” Or, at least, about its automotive twist.
Naturally, virtual artists are no strangers to its impact and the existence of BTTF Day, a celebration that occurs every year on October 21st. Jon Sibal, the pixel master behind the jonsibal account on social media is an old fox as far as CGI affairs are concerned, so he’s had ample time to play with the BTTF idea.
Thus, it was more than a year ago when he joined the fray in imagining a different vehicle as the time machine star of the franchise. It’s the “Back to the Future: The Animated Series” contemporary 1992 McLaren F1, a supercar that’s arguably more than apt for the role. Naturally, the virtual artist also showcased his Back to the Future-themed F1 GTR design when it was time for celebration last year.
But there’s just one catch: he never showcased the front of the build... He just got seemingly stuck to the “back” atmosphere and only featured the F1 from the rear. Well, that finally changed, as the third apparition (and perhaps the final one, to mirror the trilogy) also marked the arrival of the traditional front three-quarters point of view. Additionally, has anyone noticed the background keeps getting better and more elaborate?
