McLaren Employee Involved in Monster 650S Crash

While the first McLaren 650S crash didn’t result in any casualties, the 650S accident we’re going to talk about today is much more serious. A McLaren employee crashed a 650S Spider in West Sussex, UK, with the man being critically injured in the process.

The company McLaren worker was driving the supercar with its top down, returning it to McLaren’s Woking, Surrey, factory when the crash took place. It all happened on Friday at 5 PM, as The Daily Mail reports.

The accident happened while the McLaren was traveling on the A285 at Duncton, West Sussex. The vehicle reportedly spun, went off the road and landed on its side. Somewhere in its disastrous journey, the car hit a wooden post, which impaled the driver.

The emergency rescuers swiftly arrived at the crash scene, with the driver being airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, London. While the aforementioned report claims the man is currently fighting for his life, other sources claim his condition is stable.

Earlier today, McLaren send its thoughts to the unnamed employee, posted the following message on its Facebook page: “We are all thinking of our friend and colleague following a serious accident on Friday. Out of respect for his family we won’t mention his name but we wish him a swift recovery and look forward to seeing him back at work soon.

There are no details on the accident at the moment, but it seems this follows a conclusion revealed by multiple studies, which states most crashes are likely to occur close to home. This happens since the driver enteres some sort of a comfort zone and stops paying full attention to the road. Nevertheless, since this was a McLaren employee driving the automaker’s supercar, the situation may not be of such manner.

“The car was being driven by a McLaren employee on it’s way back to Woking. We are working closely with the police trying to find out how the crash happened. There are a limited number of employees who are permitted to drive our cars. They have to pass an intensive driving court before they are permitted to drive. This man did exceptionally well on our course and had been drive our cars for a long time. Out of respect for his family we have been asked not to discuss his condition,” a McLaren statement explained.

Still, the only positive side to the story is that no other vehicle was involved in the accident.
