McLaren Chief Test Driver Spotted Testing the 675 LT on Spa Francorchamps

McLaren's fiercest sub-P1 machine, the 675LT, may have made its public debut in Geneva this spring, but the British carmaker is still out there testing the supercar.

Chris Goodwin, McLaren's chief test driver, was recently spotted putting the 675 Long Tail through its paces on the Spa Francorchamps track, as the uploader of the footage below explains. The pre-production prototype you see in here wears the internal code MV420R.

The 675LT's designation is a nod to the 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail, so it's only natural for the automaker to extract every bit of performance out of the model that tops the SuperSport Series.

The clip allows us to see multiple features of the supercar at work. An excellent example would be the generously-sized aero brake, which partially relies on the aerodynamic drag to operate in order for its hydraulic system to be lighter and more efficient.

The aerodynamic brake role is played by the rear wing. This is part of a complex aero treatment that gives the LT a whopping 40 percent boost in terms of downforce.

At the center of the McLaren we find the company's twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8, which has been massaged to 675 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. The unit only has to move about 2,700 lbs (1,230 kg), as Woking's engineers have worked their way through a 220 lbs (100 kg) reduction.

While we don't get too see the 205 MPH (330 KM/H) top speed, we can notice the sharpness of the track action.

Once customers will start tracking these British tools of precision, many other drivers will have to treat their injured egos. Until then, enjoy a car afficionado's kind of spa treatment.
