Remember those McLaren Aonic renderings from the beginning of summer? Well, as it turns out, the SUV proposal from an independent artist has lost its color in the meantime. Normally, we would have chatted about it in the office and would have moved on to the next topic.
However, since that previous story was a ‘comparison’ with the Ferrari Purosangue, with many ‘ifs,’ we decided to write about it again, with emphasis on the latest reports that spoke about a possible high-rider from the auto firm based in Woking.
From a visual standpoint, these renderings, which are the work of the same tedoradze.giorgi on Instagram, send Renault Megane E-Tech vibes. If you let your imagination run wild, then you will see some DS design traits, too, next to the obvious styling inspired by the 720S supercar.
Back in the real world, McLaren has a new boss, Michael Leiters, who oversaw the making of both the Porsche Cayenne and Ferrari Purosangue. He is a firm believer in this body style and sees it as an important addition to the lineup. After all, both Aston Martin and Lamborghini have significantly increased their sales ever since they launched their super SUVs.
A previous report, dating back to June this year, claimed that the brand will launch an electric SUV 2023, but considering that everyone will sing ‘Happy New Year’ in a little over three months from now, we will take this ‘information’ with the proverbial pinch of salt.
On a final note, Leiters’ obvious desire to make the McLaren SUV happen doesn’t mean anything if the board doesn’t approve the idea. Then comes the challenging part of research and development, testing, and countless hours of fine tuning, so our two cents would be on completing it after 2025. But who knows, maybe it is already in the making, and we are just not aware of it.
