McLaren and Vodafone Extend Partnership until 2013

McLaren Mercedes have just secured a big part of their financial future for the upcoming 3 years, after announcing that their title sponsorship deal with UK-based global telecommunications company Vodafone has been extended until 2013.

In addition to remaining the title sponsor of the Woking-based organization, Vodafone will also become total communications partner of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes (until now, they were only mobile partners). The two organizations have joined hands back in 2007, the year when 2-time world champion Fernando Alonso was partnered with high-profiled rising star Lewis Hamilton in McLaren's lineup.

Vodafone is an international brand with strong local roots. As such, Formula 1 is a strong platform from which we can engage our customers with unique experiences and events,” said Morten Lundal, Group Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone.

We’ve had great success in using the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes partnership to engage our customers in our key markets, and we’re committed to new and exciting platforms which will allow customers to get even closer to the action,” he added.

While the McLaren Group's and McLaren Automotive's executive chairman Ron Dennis underlined the huge success of the aforementioned partnership in F1 – in 68 grands prix so far, McLaren has been on the podium 55 times, 21 of which were wins – the F1 team boss Martin Whitmarsh added that Vodafone is “without doubt the best title partner that we at McLaren have ever had.”

I know I speak on behalf of all at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes when I say how delighted I am that our two companies have agreed not only to renew our partnership but also to relaunch it. As a result, we’ll tirelessly develop our technological collaborations, at the same time as engaging Vodafone’s customers in some truly innovative ways,” said Whitmarsh.
