McLaren 720S vs. Lamborghini Aventador SV Drag Race Ends in Humiliation

Now that owners of McLaren's latest land-land missile have taken delivery of their cars, we can enjoy the straight line battles we've been expecting ever since we met the 720S.

For now, we'll show you the Macca duking it out with the Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce, which is the most potent member of the Raging Bull lineup.

In terms of the power-to-weight ratio, the 720S easily dominates the Aventador Superveloce. To be more precise, the Woking animal comes with 2.1 kilograms per horsepower, while the Sant'Agata Bolognese supercar burdens each of its ponies with 2.5 kilos.

The same is true in the torque department, with the twin-turbo nature of the 4.0-liter V8 that animates the Macca allowing it to leave the SV behind. While the McLaren packs 770 Nm (make that 568 lb-ft), while the Lamborghini comes with 690 Nm (509 lb-ft).

Then there's the real world side of the story. As we discussed earlier this month, a McLaren 720S dyno run has recently shown that the newcomer can deliver 700 horses... at the rear wheels. This means that the crank hp output of the thing sits at around 780 ponies.

The all-wheel-drive aura of the Lamborghini should allow the Aventador SV to grab the start, but real-world experiences can always prove such statistics wrong.

Keep in mind that the supercars were forced to deal with less-than-ideal conditions - we're talking about 90-degree weather and 2,200 DA.
