The McLaren 720S has earned itself the reputation of the supercar that hasn't lost a drag race. Of course, this only means there will always be challengers (no Dodge pun intended) willing to put a dent in that reputation. And we're here to deliver a recent example of such a machine.
The velocity toy that took on the Woking animal is a Chevrolet Corvette Z06, albeit one that comes with serious mods. To be more precise, the 6.2-liter V8 of the thing has given up on its factory blower, using a Procharged F1A-94 instead (this is basically a belt-driven turbo, which reduces mechanical losses). Other goodies fitted to the engine involve the camshaft, as well as an E85 setup.
However, it's worth mentioning that the McLaren 720S we have here is claimed to be the world's fastest - the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 of the thing now packs a full custom exhaust, as well as an ECU remap.
The two engaged in a rolling drag race and the Chevy managed to achieve its goal - given the weight difference between the two, we have doubts about the output of the Corvette, meaning that the 900 horses mentioned by the owner probably involve the power at the rear wheels.
Of course, a standing start would've brought an advantage for the mid-engined machine, which is better at putting the power down.
Now, while the drivers of the 'Vette and the Macca did take things to the track, you should know that the Chevy also spends quite a lot of time on the street.
In fact, the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which shows the said battle, also brings us plenty of street races involving this wicked Z06.
And while the Corvette dominates most of its adversaries, there is one machine that could leave it in the dust. We're referring to a heavily massaged Mustang, albeit with the Blue Oval machine experience a few issues during the drag race.
Nevertheless, we're asking you not to use such speeding brawls as examples and head for the race track when the velocity urges kick in.
