By now, anybody with interest in straight-line racing is aware of the fact that the best supercar for a drag race is the McLaren 720S. The Woking animal has established a reputation for quarter-mile sprints, with the thing managing to one-up tuner cars packing four-digit output numbers.
However, you should expect the sprinting might of the Woking animal to keep tuners at bay. In fact, this is more of a reason for aftermarket developers to squeeze even more performance out of the 720S.
And we're here to show you an example of this. As far as we know, there isn't any serious McLaren 720S mod available, with the current developments being the light kind.
This obviously also stands for the unit we have here having been gifted with two simple mods, namely downpipes (we could be talking about a catless setup here) and the obvious ECU remap.
The Macca recently hit the drag strip, as you'll get to see in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page. And the description of the video lets us know that the mid-engined rocket managed to run a 9.5s quarter-mile, with a trap speed of 149 mph.
To give you an idea of what that means, we'll mention that such a McLaren can one-up any production car in the world that has been recorded at the drag strip to date, from the Bugatti Chiron and the LaFerrari to the Dodge Demon.
As for how the mods worked on the supercar, you'll be reminded that the best quarter-mile run of a stock McLaren 720S sits at 9.7 seconds (this was achieved without the help of tire warmers or an aftermarket line lock allowing the driver to warm up the rear tires).
And while the way to the 8s run is definitely long, this might be possible as the McLaren tuning market matures. After all, the Brits only returned to making road cars in 2011.
